Mass Production In Simple terms |
Designer draws an idea and it is hand made into a master pattern Dependant on complexity this could take from 1 hour up to a couple of days Computer Aided Design As above but drawing is done on a computer and a machine cuts the design iether from plastic or it is printed in wax This is then cast and a mould is made which in turn 100's of waxes are made from Each wax is a perfect replica of the master patern ready for casting in gold or silver , platinum, paladium, etc. Castings now only take a few minutes both to produce and to finish into jewellery |
Hand Made In Simple Terms |
As above but unlike mass production items are predominently made from sheet metal, round or square wire Each piece shaped by hand and then carefully soldered together To hand make the simplest item will take 1/2 to 1 hour Many items especially pairs, like earrings can take a day or more |
